Dr. Vineeth Kumar is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Arrowe Park Hospital, Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS trust, in the UK for the last 10 years. His areas of interest include: Surgical Retina, Medical Retina, Cataract Surgery, and General Ophthalmology.
Since 2009, he has served as the Clinical Lead for the Wirral Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Programme. In this programme he has contributed and continues to contribute as a clinician, colleague, trainer, and educator. He also serves the Trinidad Eye Hospital’s Diabetic Eye Screening Program as joint Clinical Lead.
Born in India, Dr. Kumar completed his MBBS degree at Gulbarga University’s Government Medical College in Bellary, India, and is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh).
Vineeth is a trainer at the Royal College of Ophthalmology Microsurgical Course run annually for ophthalmic trainees. With an active interest in education, he participates in meetings as guest speaker, chair and in advisory role. He is actively involved in clinical governance activity within ophthalmology, providing support as a coach and as an appraiser.
Following interaction with the team from International Center for Eye Health within London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London, he became more actively involved in Public Health Ophthalmology. He also has experience running workshops for Diabetic Retinopathy Screening in India and Trinidad and Tobago, and has participated in projects in UK, Myanmar, India and Kenya. Dr. Kumar continues to learn from his travels and experiences and is keen to make a difference by reducing preventable blindness in the world.
Dr. Kumar has over twenty-five peer reviewed publications and has made over 50 oral, poster and video conference presentations. In the past year, Dr. Kumar has provided free seminars for more than 100 Family Medicine doctors and optometrists in Trinidad and Tobago.
